Used in performances of Hindu epics like the Ramayana (the timeless battle between good and evil) each costume detail conveys the character’s role – virtue, anger, or deceit. .Controlled with rods, the puppeteer (dalang) animates the characters to the rhythm of a live gamelan orchestra during all night performances that mark important life events.
