Magnificent, museum quality sculpture from East Java, cast in hollow bronze alloy and presented on a hand-made wooden plinth.

Bronze casting in Java has a history stretching back to around 300 BC, flourishing particularly under the Majapahit Kingdom ( 14th – early 16th century), when artisans produced masterful Buddhist and Hindu statuary for the temples, and decorative objects for the homes of the upper classes.

Remarkably, the techniques employed today remain largely unchanged from those used centuries ago. Many foundries in Java are still family-run workshops, where skills are passed from generation to generation, preserving both the artistry and cultural heritage of this ancient medium
